Here is our wee house, for the summer anyway. R and I live during the school year in a house owned by an old colleague of ours. She teaches in the lower 48 during the school year. During the summer, however, she and her husband come back to Alaska and we must find another place to stay. We looked in vain this year for a summer house sitting gig, but we just couldn't find one. Instead we're renting this 16 by 20 foot cabin.
The cabin is unusual compared to others for rent in Fairbanks. It has running water, which is awesome. Most cabins don't. It is also 20 miles outside of town and next to a sled dog lot. I guess you can't have everything. How much to rent a 16 by 20 foot cabin 20 miles outside of town and next to a dog yard? $450, plus utilities. What can I say, cost of living is pretty steep. Gas however, is still around $2.90. And it's light out all night. I guess there are some perks to living here.
Pics of the cabin interior can be found here. The first 6 pics in the set are of the house where we live during the school year. It's a bit larger.
